About Youth Sport Games

First Youth Sport Games were organized in 1996. with aims to provide a possibility for all primary and secondary school students to participate in organized sports competitions and other activities free of charge during the summer, when they have extra time. This idea has grown to become one of the biggest amateur sports events in this part of Europe.

The Bistra Youth Sports Games 2008. through socializing and competitions in ten sports during the summer will gathered obout fifty thousand primary school children and young people attending secondary schools from all over Croatia. They are sponsored by International Olympic Committe, World Football Federation, with an honorary patronage by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Primeminister of the Republic Croatia and President of Croatian Parlament.

Mr. Dave Richards the President of Premier Lige is a honorary president of Bistra Youth Sport Games. Ambassadors of the Games are Niko and Zlatko Kranjčar, vice president's Goran Ivanišević i Slaven Bilić. Many of our famous athletes like Blanka Vlašić, Duje Draganja, Siniše i Nikše Skelina, Marija Ančića suport Games.

Idea of regionalization of the Games was initialize in 2004. big suport in realization of this idea gave us President of European Commission Mr. Olli Rehn and Special Coordinator for Stability Pact for SE Europe Mr. Erhard Busek.

Children and young people from all counties of Croatia will have an opportunity to participate in competitions free of charge, and the most successful individuals and teams will enjoy a bit of summer vacation for free as participants in the finals in Split.

Socializing, sports and recreation have proven to be the most effective alternative to all possible negative factors in today's life. Therefore, the program has a long-term relation with the promotional and educational campaign under the title „Let's live our lives without drugs, becouse drugs take lives“ supported by Croatin Goverment's Office for Elimination of Drug Abuse.

Primary and secondary school students will therefore be able to put together their own teams and compete in sports such as small-sided football, street ball, handball and volleyball. They will also be able to compete, individually or in pairs, in tennis, beach volley, badminton and chess.

Applications for the events will be announced in all primary and secondary schools and children will be able to apply from 01 May, 2008. by telephone, fax and on our web site.

In the sports part of the program, competitions will take place in three categories:

  1. Primary school students from grades 1-4
  2. Primary school students from grades 5-8
  3. Secondary school students

Competitive sports are:

  1. Small-sided soccer – boys
  2. Small-sided soccer – girls
  3. Volleyball
  4. Handball
  5. Street ball
  6. Tennis
  7. Table tennis
  8. Chess
  9. Beach volley
  10. Badminton

This program serves to promote the way of life based on friendship, solidarity and fair play, as the alternative to all possible negative factors in today's life, which are threatening the children and youth population. From year to year the response of children and young people has been growing, and quality of organization has reached high levels.
